When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. We also have around £1k costs to get to the ship before it sails on top of the cruise cost, so make that £10k as a realistic end of cruise price. Some may say, but your getting a 14 day cruise for £x but the longer you're on a ship the more you'll spend too, and the cruise lines know this. Cruising is not for everyone and if you decide not to cruise then that is a perfectly good decision for you. For some people they only need the bare basics of accommodation, food, water and entertainment to make a cruise a wonderful holiday especially if the stops are places they want to visit.

Night Caribbean - Western Cruise

Princess is fairly traditional with their dress code. Depending on the length of the cruise, there are a varying number of formal nights, where women wear evening gowns and cocktail dresses and men wear tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits with a tie to dinner. There is a Walgreens/Publix close to the port if you are flying in.

I don't know if you'll be able to have a good time without all the extras. If you can't do that, then you'll either decide whether to pay whatever or just not cruise. Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. Taxes, fees and port expenses not included. Rates are in USD and valid for US and Canadian residents only.

Princess Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

(I got my start on Cruise Critic in 2005 – as a community member as well – before embarking on a career in cruise journalism). Individual forums are available for every major cruise line, from German-language brand AIDA Cruises to adult-only newcomer Virgin Voyages. You can read any board you’d like simply by signing up to become a member and can post and ask questions anywhere you’d like.

"LIVE' from Celebrity BEYOND - April 12th, 2024 Sailing: 10-night Ultimate Caribbean!

IMHO cruises are exceptional value for money compared with land based holidays. I know people who have simply paid for the cost of the cruise with not a penny more. No package, no specialty dining, no spa, etc.  And, from talking with them, they had a fantastic cruise. One of busiest and closest to casino so not a good idea, but I feel like a lot of bad decisions have been made on this ship. Some things can be easily changed and others not so much. The thread was closed because the person who started it asked for it to be.

Excited and want to cross post everywhere! The complaint you and many others have with cruising is the community. Community is what makes cruising unique and fun for so many people. The experience feels common for the most part. For the rest of the parts, there is separation.

I totally get they can't just hand out freebies for something that is probably outwith their control but if you want more money from me, I feel I want something it appease my initial disappointment first, is this unreasonable? This experience has tainted the entire cruise for me as I feel I'm just a cash cow right now for Princess when they should be pulling out all the stops. Crown grill last night was good but the service was a circus show of waiters tripping over each other to help. Ordered drinks then got asked three more times by different people. Our editorial staff maintains a presence on the boards as well and try to answer questions about upcoming trips we have.

Pool or beach attire, shorts, baseball caps and casual jeans are out for the dining rooms, and diners must wear shoes even in the buffet. We don't get any packages, and we always have a wonderful carefree pretty much AI experience for the entire family. You don't need wifi or alcohol on a cruise. You may want them, but you don't need them. They will want ~£13pppd service that is optional so you can take it off. Drinks enough non alcohol available without a package and a bit of PAYG if a light drinker.

Plenty of people do it on the cheap, don't drink and stick to the included offers you won't feel out of place and not fitting in. I would recommend canceling as I think your attitude isn’t likely to improve. Eat the non refundable deposit, book something else on land and forget cruising. This could have happened with any line.

Our members range from first-time cruisers to veterans with hundreds of sea days under their belts. These include cruisers who almost exclusively sail with a single line, along with those who jump around from ship to ship and line to line. Most of the ship also turns out for deck parties, and partnerships with Discovery and Animal Planet bring families together on special shore excursions and activities like stargazing at sea.

I am sailing April 27 and received the bid to upgrade at about the 60 day mark. Presumed the email was automatically generated and set my expectations low. The same questions seem to come up when the same or similar thread is only 3 pages old or older.

Just say “no” to expensive alcohol packages, onboard sales, spa treatments, and bingo. I think based on your post, you should cancel and find another vacation. Yes, it feels like a bottomless pit of money I am throwing my money into when Princess have changed the goal posts and I just have to suck it up, I just need someone to change my mind before I hit the cancel button....be gentle. Our costs before we even step on ship are £5k approx without the Plus package or any up selling which will occur either closer to the time or on board. The customer experience is something I feel really strongly about as I've worked in customer experience my entire life and this felt like an absolute kick in the teeth and sod the customer.

For me, how much you spend depends on the kind of holiday you want to have. Yes, Princess wants you to spend more but they are a business... Our job, as customers if you like, is to only spend what we are happy spending. We rarely go on ship excursions and only go to the speciality restaurants with OBC (on board credit). A shame though as I think you and your family will get hooked on cruising if you did give it a try.

Itineraries change all the time and you have to expect the unexpected when you choose to cruise. If you want more, you will pay for it. There are plenty of cruisers who stick to the standard fare, don't eat at the specialty restaurants, don't drink alcohol, and don't purchase shore excursions directly through Princess. Personally, I don't eat at the specialty restaurants, have my alcoholic drinks at bars while in port, and book my shore excursions independently. Placed weak offer on Signature Suite.

Now, other lines like X and RCI do not usually have refundable deposits, unless you pay a lot more for it. Fourteen days is a really long cruise. I know it is a bitter pill, but you might be better off just losing the 600 pounds and booking a much cheaper one-week cruise.
